Wild Music Pedagogy: A Framework (PDF)
"[Wild Music Pedagogy] is potentially liberating and inspiring for all involved, and is ever-growing, always seeking to do better. Wild implicates nature, diversity, and wilderness; it also implicates openness to unexpected outcomes and a stalwart rejection of destructive, mainstream capitalistic attitudes. Therefore, Wild Music Pedagogy is unapologetically purposeful. Wild Music Pedagogy is also local, that is, ecological, being relevant to a specific identity, time, and place; it is resilient, hardy, patient; it is rooted, “soaking up” information from its environment and all of its experiences; it is efficient, founded on truth and conforming to individual needs; it is active, not passive, advocating for goodness, and having stake in both the process and product; it is skillful, creative, resourceful, and masterful; it is purposeful, being that there is a unique need for Wild Music Pedagogy here and now; it is adaptive, flexible and responsive; it is evolving, making changes over time, always questioning itself and others; it is propagating, planting seeds in individuals and developing exponential networks; it is sustainable, striving for best practice in all areas, avoiding physical and philosophical waste; it is prosperous, rewarding all involved and having potential for far-reaching outcomes; it is symbiotic, collaborative and process-based; and it is undomesticated, not cultivated solely for human benefit at non-human and future-human expense, questioning authority, and liberating. Like many other pedagogical models, Wild Music Pedagogy emphasizes the appreciation and development of personal responsibility as imperative and stands in opposition to banking pedagogies..."
Because the machine will try to grind you into dust anyway, whether or not we speak. We can sit in our corners mute forever while our sisters and our selves are wasted, while our children are distorted and destroyed, while our earth is poisoned; we can sit in our safe corners mute as bottles, and we will still be no less afraid.
